Choose the right security level
Shredders are rated P-1 to P-7 by the size of the particles they produce. The smaller the particle, the harder it is to reconstruct the document. Most organisations handling personal data choose P-4 or above.
P-1strips ≤ 12 mm
General internal documents
P-2strips ≤ 6 mm
Internal documents with low sensitivity
P-3≤ 320 mm²
Sensitive and confidential data
P-4≤ 160 mm²
Personal data under GDPR. Our usual office recommendation
P-5≤ 30 mm²
Highly sensitive data: legal, medical, financial
P-6≤ 10 mm²
Classified data with very high protection needs
P-7≤ 5 mm²
Top secret material, government and defence
Particle limits shown are the maximum area per particle for paper. Not sure which level your organisation needs? Our team can advise based on the data you handle and any sector guidance you follow.
